What Is the Purpose of Life in Islam? A Reading Route
In an Islamic frame, the question of life’s purpose begins with worship of Allah and extends to intentions, actions and responsibilities. It is not exhausted by finding a preferred career or a project that carries your name. A useful starting point is to understand the responsibilities already present in your day.
Make the question concrete
Name three areas of daily life, such as worship, family and study or work. In each, ask what responsibility you understand, what you need to learn and what can be improved. Use this list to choose a reading question, rather than to pass judgement on your worth.
Visibility is not a measure of purpose
A responsibility at home may be little seen and much needed. A widely shared project may contain benefits and shortcomings that outsiders cannot see. You can measure whether an appointment was kept or a task completed. Audience numbers do not measure a person’s standing before Allah.
How to read the first volume
Read the introduction, then choose a section on purpose, intention or responsibilities. Do not rush to project ideas when your question concerns an existing obligation. Record an idea, its context and its limits. A question about your particular circumstances may require qualified guidance beyond a chapter heading.
From reading to a specific step
Choose one responsibility to fulfil or one piece of knowledge to learn at a realistic time. Afterwards, review what actually happened and what needs adjusting. Continue with What Remains of You or Begin with What You Can when their themes match the next question you want to explore.
