How to Frame a Reading Question about Purpose

Purpose is a broad question. You can start close to daily life: how do work, learning or caring for family relate to what I live for? Your question does not need to be final before you begin.
Choose a relevant area
Your Life Has Meaning introduces worship, sincerity, rights, family, learning, work and service among its subjects. Choose one area and note why it matters now. Then read the book’s treatment in context rather than relying on its short introduction.
Mark your understanding
After a passage, record what you understood, the explanation or evidence offered and what remains unclear. Return to wording and context before attributing a statement to a source. Keep personal reflection separate from quotation, and allow your understanding to develop.
Consider a situation
Reflect on a situation from your day in light of the idea. Avoid unnecessary names or private details. One moment need not become a sweeping assessment of yourself or someone else. This is reflection, not a measure of personal worth.
Continue flexibly
