When the House Grew Quiet — A Shared-Reading Picture Story
B18 · Ages 3–5 · Madarej Stories
Five-year-old Yusuf is with his father. In this original fictional story, he takes one possible step, asks Allah for help, and leaves the rest of tomorrow for its time.

1. Questions before sleep

Yusuf lay down, then sat up again. “Tomorrow I have to show my picture to the class,” he said. “What if I forget it? What if I can’t speak?”
2. One step for tonight

Baba sat beside him. “Tell me the first thing we can do tonight.” Yusuf thought for a moment. “Put the picture in my bag.”
3. The bag is ready

Yusuf slid the picture between two stiff pieces of card so it would not bend. Then he placed his blue pencil in the small pocket and closed it himself.
4. The first sentence

“This is my drawing of a garden after the rain,” Yusuf practiced once. “We have done what we can tonight,” Baba said. “We can ask Allah to help you. Tomorrow will come in its time.”
5. A cue card

“What if I forget the sentence?” Yusuf asked. He drew a raindrop and a flower on a small cue card. “Look at the card and begin with what you see,” Baba said. “You do not need every word memorized.”
6. Rest with a little worry remaining

Yusuf returned to bed. “I still feel a little worried.” “That’s all right,” Baba said. “Your bag is ready. Now your body can rest.” The lamp went dark. They did not carry all of tomorrow into tonight.
After the story
Question: What could Yusuf do tonight, and what had to wait?
Activity: Name one worry. Choose one safe two-minute step or cue card, then let your body rest. Do not promise that nothing difficult will happen.

Original fiction inspired by “A Tranquil Soul,” physical pages 6, 15 and 19. No direct Qur’an or hadith quotation appears in the child text. The storyboard establishes Yusuf as five years old, and the adult is consistently identified as his father.
